Good afternoon. My name is Moody. I will share who I am with you.
I am from a nice house with a lot to do in it, like games to play and almost anything you can think of in it.
I am from the town that’s known for the best BBQ which smells good, looks good and also taste wonderful.
I am from eating Sunday dinners at my Grandma’s house and a mama who cooked every night.
I am from spending the 4th of July on the beach with my family and also BBQ at parks on sunny days.
I am from listening to songs like, “Touchdown” or “Everybody” from my favorite artist:
I am from a crazy family. I lost my brother through gun violence.
I am from a well-educated family with a smart uncle that I respect because he takes good care of his family.
I am from a hard-working mom and a dad who worked anywhere to support their family. My dad’s family and my stepmom love me like I was one of her own children.
I am from Memphis, TN. where they say it’s hard to get it, but some of us don’t try so we don’t know how hard it is.
I want to share some of my experiences in school with you.
I used to get suspended from time to time. I was suspended for things like arguing with teachers, walking out of class and losing my temper. After that happened, people started looking at me as a trouble maker. I was seen as someone who was not a good influence on people, but as just a bad child.
After I got locked up, some other people started to tell me, I’m not that bad. They told me they saw a positive, smart leader who could see the big picture. After hearing this, I wanted to show it, so I started thinking about why I’m here.
Let me share a personal story.
One day, first thing in the morning, I walked in the classroom and the teacher told me to move to the front of the class because she knew I was easily distracted. So, I moved to the front but what she did not know was that I was not having a good day. She did not know that moving to the front would make me feel nervous and ridiculous. She did not know me.
That is why I feel there should be a policy for one on one time between teachers and students in the classroom. This would help students understand their teachers better and teachers to understand their students better. It helps both to learn to solve their problems and succeed in school.
