I think one of the, or the biggest problems with today’s society is the fact that the human race cannot come together like it should. We don’t look past stereotypes of all kinds, and we have a perpetual conflict between various people because each does what the other believes is unconventional, not righteous (according to one’s religious beliefs), unjust or unfair, or taboo. I believe that most individuals, whether it be subliminal or not, think or see themselves as egos existing inside their own bodies that are some-what or completely isolated from the rest of the world. By doing this people are categorizing themselves into stereotypical classifications based on their activities, talents, feelings, beliefs, associates and materialistic possessions, which generates a conflict between people because of differences and unfamiliarity.
Furthermore, people are divided into different nationalities, races, religious and political groups whom all look at the environment and ecosystem as if it consisted of different parts to be exploited by each groups interest. And this is the reason or all present, past, and most like future social, ecological, and cultural crises.
It has alienated us from nature and from each other. It has brought an unjust distribution of natural resources, an ever-rising wave of violence which is both spontaneous and institutionalized, and has polluted the environment with inequity in which life has often become negative and destructible. Which I am confident is the opposite of our purpose on Earth. I believe this form of thought is derived from people being self-centered and not being comfortable with difference and dissimilarity.
You always hear that you should go to school and get an education, so you can become something, so you can acquire more knowledge, so you can be better. I have yet to hear someone say that you should go to school so that we, as a people, can become something, so that we as a people can acquire more knowledge, so that we as a people can be something better than we are. I know that we as humans were evolved or created with the purpose and responsibility to take of and look after each other as well as our planet. We are so focused on ethnicity, race and religion that we neglect to see why we are here which results in us missing our purpose.
I am not saying that we should cease individuality and become all the same, I’m saying that we have to stop being egotistical and self-absorbed and embrace difference with love and wisdom and stop differentiating. Only then will we achieve true progress as a people.
