A second session was held with the graduate cohorts on September 15, 2017. The goal of the session was to familiarize the youth with facilitation by guiding them through team building facilitation activities that they themselves will have to lead in the following sessions.
Per usual, the session began with a check-in to be followed by an agenda overview where the Youth are reminded of the goal of the program and to reaffirm them that they have the answers to preventing other youth from being incarcerated and that they can significantly contribute to lessening youth violence.
In this session the Youth Justice facilitators, Mahal and Evan, led the group through four activities, (Card Intros, Card Order, Paper Tiger and Shoulder Poke), which were followed by a debrief where the youth were to speak on what they noticed about specific things that the facilitators were doing.
The overall goals of these activities and the debrief were for the youth to become aware of what worked and what did not work during the facilitation so they would be able to have these things in mind when they begin to lead their own sessions.
