On September 22, the graduate cohorts met for their third session with the Youth Justice sector of BRIDGES USA at 201 Poplar. The goal of the session was for the youth to get hands-on experience with facilitating their own session and to receive feedback on what they did well and what they will need to improve upon in the future.
Following check-in, the group went over the goal for the session, the overall goal of the program and did an energizer as well – a routine during every session.
In this session, the youth led their own team building exercises with five other youth from their pod. The youth in the program led their peers through four activities from last week that Evan and Mahal modeled. At the conclusion of the activities, the youth leading the activity were debriefed given feedback on their facilitation by the five youth from the pod as well as Evan and Mahal who were taking notes during the activities.
Following the youth-led facilitation, the facilitators, Mahal and Evan, led four new activities geared around shifting energy within a group. The activities included Walmart, Listen to the Universe, the Music Game and 1,2,3.
For homework, the youth was advised to choose two of the new energizers and facilitate them before the next meeting on September 29.
